How Dryden Restoration San Diego Was Born in San Diego

When we opened our doors in San Diego in 2005, the damage restoration trade in this city had a trust problem. Homeowners across San Diego County kept telling us the same stories: a crew would show up late or not at all, a price quoted over the phone would somehow grow once the drywall was open, and a repair that looked fine for six weeks would fail the first time it rained. We didn’t start this branch because the market needed another restoration company. We started it because the market needed one that would do the thing it said it would do.

The decision came from watching homeowners get let down. One call in particular sticks with us: a family in Chula Vista had paid a contractor to dry out a water-damaged wall after a supply line burst in their kitchen. Within three months, mold was growing behind the baseboard. The contractor wouldn’t return their calls. When we opened our San Diego location, we made a quiet promise: we would put the price in writing before any work began, and we would stand behind the repair for as long as our guarantee says we will. That promise is the reason the branch exists.

Dryden Water Damage Restoration is the damage restoration company of the Kingswell family, built on a simple three-part mission: water out, house dry, damage repaired. Our San Diego branch brought that standard to this city, and we’ve kept it here for 21 years.

Carl Brandt’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade

Carl Brandt came into this work the way a lot of people come into a trade that chooses them: sideways, through someone else’s mess. Early in his working life, Carl spent time on job sites where water damage had been left to sit. He saw what happens when moisture gets into framing and nobody acts: the smell that starts sweet and turns sour, the drywall that crumbles at a touch, the homeowner standing in the middle of it trying to figure out who to call and whether they can even afford the repair. He saw how much of the stress wasn’t the damage itself. It was the not knowing: not knowing the price, not knowing when help would arrive, not knowing whether the fix would hold.

What kept Carl in this trade is the opposite of that experience. When a homeowner calls our San Diego branch, they get a straight answer about what’s wrong, what it will cost, and when we’ll be there. There’s a particular satisfaction in the back-and-forth: showing up in the window we gave, opening up the wall or the floor, and pointing out exactly what we’re seeing. No mystery. No stall. The work is physical and dirty, and then at the end of the job the space is dry and clean and the homeowner can exhale. Carl has been doing this work for more than two decades now, and the part that still gets him out of bed is that moment when a homeowner realizes the problem is actually being handled.

If he weren’t doing this, Carl would probably be doing something else with his hands: building furniture, working on an old truck, fixing things for people who couldn’t afford to replace them. The through-line is the same. He likes to repair what’s broken and show the person who owns it that it can be made right.

Meet Carl Brandt – The Person Behind Every Job

Carl Brandt is the owner and founder of our San Diego branch of Dryden Water Damage Restoration. He has spent his entire career in the damage restoration trade in San Diego, and he has seen and repaired just about every kind of water damage this city can throw at a home: slab leaks, supply line bursts, roof leaks, sewage backups, and storm water intrusion. His background is in the hands-on side of the work, and he holds the training and certifications the restoration trade expects of a professional in this field, including IICRC standards for water damage and applied structural drying.

Carl is not a franchise technician flown in from somewhere else. He lives in San Diego, works here, and walks onto every job as the person accountable for the result. On weekends he’s usually working on an old truck or out in the garage with a restoration project of his own. He measures his work by one thing: whether the homeowner would call him back if something went wrong again.

Our Promise to San Diego Homeowners

Our promises are specific because we’ve seen what happens when they aren’t. Say the price before the work. Show up in the window we gave. Leave the place cleaner than we found it. Put the guarantee in writing. Come back if it fails.

Those aren’t slogans; they’re our daily operating rules. Every job gets a written price before any work starts. If something changes mid-job, we stop and explain it and get your approval before we spend another dollar of your money. We leave job sites swept, with the debris bagged and hauled off, and we walk you through the work we did before we leave. If a repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That last part is in writing on every job.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed: Our San Diego branch operates as a licensed restoration contractor in California, and every pro working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires.
  • Insured & bonded: We carry the insurance and bonding coverage homeowners should expect before anyone sets foot on their property.
  • More than two decades in San Diego: We have been serving homeowners across San Diego County since 2005, through wet winters, dry summers, and everything between.
  • Brand standards from Dryden Water Damage Restoration: Every job is backed by the Kingswell Guarantee and the Dryden mission: water out, house dry, damage repaired.

Those credentials matter because a restoration crew works inside the most personal space you own. You should know the people in your home are licensed, insured, and accountable to a standard that’s in writing, not just on a business card.

Rooted in San Diego

We’ve worked in homes from Chula Vista to Encinitas, from Coronado to Alpine, and we know this city’s houses: the stucco and slab foundations, the hillside drainage that shifts in winter storms, the older plumbing that fails in Coronado and National City. San Diego is our home and our service area. If you call us from anywhere in the county, you’ll reach a live coordinator who will connect you with our local team. And if we tell you we’ll be there, we’ll be there.
